Our Gardening journey!
Our Gardening journey! on PhotoPeach
Handing over the gardens to Year 1 students
Yesterday we invited Room 4 to come to Room 9 so we could talk to them about all the things we have been doing this year in our gardens and what we have learnt. Then we all went out to the garden and helped pull out the old vegetables to make way for new planting next year. The Year 1's are very excited about gardening!

Harvesting for shared lunch
Room 9' s job for the shared lunch was to harvest and cook the kale. We picked lots of kale leaves, washed them carefully, and then everyone had a turn at taking the stalks out and tearing the leaves into small pieces. Then we put the kale on trays with oil and baked them in the oven - kale chips - yum!

Trip to Ambury Farm
As part of our inquiry into sustainable communities we visited Ambury Farm to learn about where our food comes from.
In this photo we saw the cows being milked and learnt that there is cream in the milk.
In this photo we made butter by shaking the cream in ajar with a marble lots of times and then we ate the butter on bread! It was delicious!

Yummy potatoes!!
Thank you Rooms 27 and 11.
Room 8 really enjoyed the yummy roasted and boiled potatoes and the kale chips. We finished EVERYTHING on the plate.
Yum, yum!!
Kale Chips!!
Look at us enjoying our kale chips! We made them with some children from Room 27. First we harvested the kale. Then we broke the kale into bite sized pieces. We sprinkled olive oil and himalayan sea salt over them and baked them in the oven at 150 degrees for 15 minutes. They were so delicious Mrs Millar had to make more for all the Year 2s to share the next day!! Yum yum.

Spinach Dip
Room 10 went and harvested some spinach today. We shared it around with all of the year 2s and managed to polish off 1kg of sour cream and LOTS of spinach! Check out our recipes and see if you can make it at home. It's very easy and almost everyone loved it!
Kale and Spinach!
Next week we are going to make our very own kale chips! Today we decided to go and look at our gardens to see how they have grown over the holidays. Wow! We noticed lots of our plants have grown really well. We tried a little bit of kale raw to see what it tasted like. We also got to try some yummy spinach dip that Room 10 made with crackers. We thought it was delicious!
