Our school environment

Room 9 hung some cd's in the garden to scare away the birds and to tell people to look after our garden. We also put some milk bottles over the plants to protect them from frost.

Room 11 Help With Putting Eggshells In Our Garden

We were very sad to hear that the slugs and snails were eating our plants! When Mrs Meikle said we could add egg shells we very happy. We realised that the egg shells would be very sharp to the slugs and snails and put them off eating our plants! Mrs Millar and some children brought some crushed egg shells into class. This was us lining up to take turns putting egg shells into our garden.

Problems in our garden

We realised that snails and slugs were eating some of the plants in our vege gardens. Naughty slugs and snails!
We had to think of a solution. Mrs D and Mrs Allen got some used eggshells from home. We crushed them and put them in the garden. Snails and slugs don't like the pointy bits of the crushed eggshells.

Planting our garden

Planting our garden!

Room 9 planted the garden at the end of Term 2 in Matariki because that is a good time for planting. Lynsey and Mr Soc helped us plant broccoli and spinach. First we had to take the plants out carefully. Then we had to measure the rows. Next we made a hole for the plant. Lastly we put the plant in the hole and gently patted the soil around the plants.
